A Series

The A Series of printers are pretty basic when it comes to meeting the requirements of NSC. There will be an ink-tank printer, and a color laser printer. Both of these lineups of printers are designed to be as price conscious as possible. Yes, one could buy a cheap ink-jet printer for $50, and pay more than that in ink cartridges, but this is not sustainable, nor is it efficient. Also, the printer is very low quality, and may not last a year. KCI printers are not produced in that wasteful way. Both lineups will have an ADF (Auto-Document Feeder) for copies and scans. All ADFs must be duplex capable. All printers must support SD cards for printing directly from the card, USB-C, RJ45, and Wifi-5 capabilities. The printer will run a modified version of Kal-OS intended directly for their printers. The ADF will handle copies, and scans to make the printer more efficient. The printer is also auto-duplex which means it will print on both sides, or scan/copies both sides when loaded in the ADF. There will be an SD card reader which will allow the user to print directly from the card if that is in their best interest. Since the printer also supports USB-C, RJ45, and Wifi-5 capabilities, those options are there as well. The printer will have a download for Windows drivers for the printer. The user will use their computer to go to https://drivers.kci.ka/printers. The printer will have a single paper tray for 100 sheets of paper, or 25 #10 envelopes. There will also be a priority feed slot for 1 sheet at a time. Color choices are black or white. The printer will have a 500Mhz CPU, 1GB of memory, and 16GB of storage for the OS, and upgrades.

Both printers will support 4 colors for printing. The Ink-Tank printer will be $250, and the color laser will be $300. While these prices are high, keep in mind that an ink-tank can last a years, and a toner cartridge could go through thousands of pages before needing to be replaced. You would save money in the refills so to say. And while these prices are high, someone receiving just GBI should be able to save for their printer.
