The I Series PDA is intended exclusively for inmates of the Kaldan Prison System. While it would be more like a tablet, the PDA will serve all of the roles that an automated system will otherwise do. You can find more information on another subdomain in this domain. The I series PDA will have the following specs:
- 2.5Ghz Quad Core CPU, 6GB RAM
- 128GB Storage + micro-SDXC card slot
- 6.9″ screen with 250ppi
- Fingerprint reader in side button
- No Cameras
- Wifi-6, 3.5mm audio
- No eSIM
The 2.5Ghz CPU will be sufficient enough to handle any task the inmate might need. The memory is sufficient enough to handle a few tasks at one time. The integrated storage is used to hold the OS and application files that the PDA will need. Keep in mind, this is the only way to read communications with loved ones. 64GB would have likely worked, but NSC requirements is a minimum of 128GB. The inmate will be required to acquire a micro-SDXC card for their personal files. When the inmate leaves, they will take their card with them.
The 6.9″ screen is larger than most PDAs, and might feel more like a small tablet, but the screen size is intended to allow the inmate read their emails from family, and hopefully be sufficient enough to reply to the writer. The screen is not ideal, but it will get the job done.
A fingerprint reader is used to require authentication. This prevents another inmate from stealing the tablet, and accessing the files. When the inmate leaves, they will unlock their device, and reset the PDA. This will be because the tablet will remain with the prison system for the next inmate.
The audio jack is to allow the inmate to listen to music, or watch videos while the tablet is charging via the USB-C port. This is intended to allow them to continue to use the device while charging. The options for “games” will be limited, but to be respectful of the other inmates, they should be using this audio port.
There is no camera. Simply because this is a privacy issue. This will mean no camera, and no way of taking pictures of other inmates, or configuration of their pod. This tablet is still property of the prison system, even though the inmate is using the PDA. There is no eSIM for obvious reasons of why not. This means the PDA only has access to a monitored Wifi connection, and that would be all.
All inmates’ PDAs will support Wifi-6, and all traffic is monitored by AI to look for suspicious communications, and notify an officer to allow for further investigation. This will include any email messages. Even though the inmate has their own private email address, all traffic goes through the prison system, and constantly monitored. Any illegal activity can lead to punishment such as revoking PDA privileges for a period of time. Again, this is the only means of communication that the inmate has. In order to consume content, there must be earphones of some sort must be used. There is no speaker on the PDA.
