An eBook tablet is a device that will allow the owner to write on their tablet using a stylus, and an ebook tablet app called Notebook. This is the major difference between an eBook Reader, and an eBook tablet. All eBook tablets are larger in size since they should have similar dimensions as a sheet of paper will have + some additional length/width. KCI will make all of the eBook Tablets with a 10.2″ screen, but this is not a requirement.
There will be some specs that is required by NSC requirements. These specs applies to all eBook tablets no matter the manufacturer for NSC authorized standard. The standards are as follows:
- 1Ghz dual core CPU, 2GB of memory
- 1GB OS + Up to 1TB micro-SDXC card
- Wifi-6 standards, and Bluetooth 5.0
- Stylus with standardized tips
- Support for the following formats:
- epub
- klib
- Unprotected .mobi
- mp3 audio
- txt
- USB-C for charging and synching
As with the eBook readers, the tablets will come in 3 versions. There will be an affordable option, an option for educational purposes, and a professional option. These are intended to serve the role they were designed for without being too cumbersome. There will be a uniformed standard for eBook Tablet stylus sizes so the tips can work in any supporting stylus. All files written in the Notebook app will be .klib files. In addition, you would only be able to write in .klib files, and only in ebooks you own. Writing on loaner eBooks will have the writing option disabled, but you would be able to see the notes of the owner in the file.
