Printers

Printers will have some restrictions. This is because of the requirements for sustainability. Simply put, ink cartridges aren’t sustainable. You either return them to the manufacturer for nothing, or you more likely throw them away contributing to the e-Waste problem. The same can go for laser toner cartridges. Since KCI is a Kaldan company, and has manufacturing processes in Kaldus, they must follow sustainability laws, and therefore all of their products (including printers) must be sustainable.

There will be 2 kinds of printers. There will be your ink-tank printers, and your laser printers. Both of these printers will be uniformed in design and capability. Both lineups will have an ADF (Auto-Document Feeder) for copies and scans. All ADFs must be duplex capable. All printers must support SD cards for printing directly from the card, USB-C, RJ45, and Wifi-5 capabilities. These capabilities will be included for every printer. There must also be a minimum of a 9cm touchscreen in a 16:9 aspect ratio. This will make things easier to work with the printer, and navigate. All of these features will be required by NSC for compliance.

The ink-tank printers will have 4-6 tanks that would hold the ink. With moderate use, an ink-tank printer should last about a year before it needs refilling. To refill, one would buy the color ink they would need from KCI (or other manufacturers). The user will then fill the ink-tank up with the ink need, and recalibrate the printer to inform it that the ink tank is filled. The user should fill to the full line to accuracy.

All laser printers sold by KCI will be color laser printers. A user can buy a Black & White printer from a number of other manufacturers. KCI is focused on color laser as the same toner cartridge will be used for all three line-ups of laser printers. This will make things simpler for the customer.
