Media

Media apps are apps that edits, and works with music, pictures and videos. Most of the programs in this category will be open source software that would be available from more competent developers. There will be a couple of exceptions though, mostly for compatibility with Kal-OS resources.

  • Audacity – Music Editing Software
  • Blender – Modeling Software
  • Free CAD – CAD Program
  • GIMP – Image Editor/Viewer
  • Handbrake – Video Conversion
  • K-DVD – Blu-Ray/CD/DVD controller
  • K-Library – eBook Client
  • K-Music – Music Player
  • OBS Studio – Screen Casting Software
  • Sound Recorder – Audio Recorder
  • VLC Player – Video Player

K-DVD

For computers with a Blu-Ray, or DVD player/writer, this tool will allow for importing the files into a compatible format. This will allow the user to import the media they own so they can use it with their computer. From there, the user can use K-Music, or VLC Player to play the files.

K-Library

K-Library is the program to view and create .klib files. As mentioned in the Ministry of Education website. The Kaldan National Library’s default format will be .klib which will use this application to view these files. The reason for this is because .klib can handle document text (most eBooks), as well as handwritten notes from eBook Tablets.

K-Music

K-Music is a music management software. It would allow one to create playlists and smart playlists. One could also create “categories” which they can use in the smart playlists. For example, a “party” category might allow a person to create a smart playlist where category is party, and the rating is 3+ stars. K-Music will also import music from optical discs when an optical reader is connected with the computer. When importing, K-Music will use .mp3, and will modify all .mp3 files to have a uniformed volume – therefore preventing the need to turn the volume down or up. In addition, the user can choose to have higher quality output when importing from a CD or DVD. Higher bitrate music will take more space though.
